Get to know your Pima County School Superintendent, Dr. Linda L. Arzoumanian. |
From the very beginning, Linda Arzoumanian focused her career--and her future--on her passion: the education and welfare of children and adults.
Starting in West Virginia and Wisconsin, Linda began her teaching career as an adult education instructor. Although a gratifying experience, she saw a need to find a way to influence educational experiences at a much earlier age.
After relocating to Arizona, she shifted her direction, becoming a Nursery School and Preschool teacher and administrator. In her new position, it became clear that parental involvement early in a child's educational development was a critical component of success. With that in mind and twelve years of teaching young children under her belt, she moved to the Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) where she channeled her energies developing and implementing a curriculum-based program for three-year-old children and their parents that would align with a Chapter I program for four year olds. So that the viability of the program could be validated, Linda helped develop a portfolio-based assessment to complement the new procedures.
From there, she became a Curriculum Specialist for TUSD, implementing classroom observations and staff development for a full-day kindergarten program for at-risk children. Her efforts resulted in a training program that not only developed and implemented a program for bilingual paraprofessionals, it also provided large group staff development related to early childhood curriculum.
Continuing in her pursuit of improving early childhood development, Linda moved to CODAC Behavioral Health Services, Inc. in Tucson to become the Coordinator of Community Based Services. In that capacity, she coordinated the five-year demonstration grant that utilized family systems and multiple domains theory. As a part of that effort, she developed guidelines and quality assurance for childcare facilities for licensing, reimbursement and national accreditation.
Linda was promoted to the Director of Child and Family Services of CODAC Behavioral Health Services, Inc. Her functions broadened to include training, supervision, and evaluation of multicultural/bicultural staff involved with local, state, and federal programs. Those programs were in accordance with agency policies and procedures in areas of prevention, intervention, and treatment problems for comprehensive behavioral health agency. Linda was also responsible for the design, coordination, and evaluation of the SAMHSA Grant (Integrated Family Services), which focused on aligning education, prevention, early intervention, and treatment for children 0 - 8 and their families.
Staying with CODAC Behavioral Health Services, Inc., but diversifying her skills, Linda then became the Director of Management Information Systems. Unlike previous efforts, her new career challenge made her responsible for the contract review, compliance monitoring, and supervision of functions related to management information systems, data collection, and staff supervision.
Although challenging, Linda knew that education was still her passion--a passion to which she needed to return.
