June 12, 2008 SAN FERNANDO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 35 GOVERNING BOARD APPOINTMENT (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today the appointment of Deborah Ann Grider to the governing board of the San Fernando Elementary School District. Ms. Grider is co-owner and manager of the Sasabe Store in Sasabe, Arizona. She has experience in financial management, staffing and employee evaluations which will be an asset to the governing board. She also serves as the Homeless Liaison for the school district. Ms. Grider, a resident of the San Fernando Elementary School District, will be able to bring her work and volunteer experience quickly to the service of the school district. Her concern for the educational growth and development of the children make her a valuable asset to the district. The Oath of Office will be administered by Alice Knagge, President of the San Fernando Elementary School District Governing Board. Ms. Grider will assume her duties at the next school district Governing Board meeting.
March 26, 2008 JOINT TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION DISTRICT No. 11 ALTERNATIVE ELECTION SYSTEM AND COMPOSITION CHANGE OF THE GOVERNING BOARD (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today that effective with the November 4, 2008 general election the composition of the governing board of the Pima County Joint Technological Education District (JTED) will change. Currently the JTED Governing Board has one board member from each of the 11 member school districts. The new JTED Governing Board will consist of five board members and all five board positions will be on the November 4, 2008 ballot. The boundaries for each of the five member JTED districts are basically the same boundaries as the districts of the Pima County Board of Supervisors with the exception of the school districts listed below. Residents that reside in the following school districts do not live within the boundaries of the JTED and therefore are not eligible to run for the office of the JTED governing board: Altar Valley Elementary School District #51 Continental Elementary School District #39 Empire School District #37 Redington School District #44 San Fernando Elementary School District #35 One board member will now be elected from each of the five supervisor districts in Pima County. Potential governing board members must also reside in one of the 11 member school districts of the JTED. To qualify as a governing board member for the JTED the candidate must have been a resident of the JTED school district for at least one year immediately preceding the day of election and be a registered voter in the state of Arizona. In addition, no employee of a school district or their spouse may hold membership on a governing board of a school district of which such employee is employed. March 18, 2008 COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT ANNOUNCES SCHOOL DISTRICT GOVERNING BOARD CANDIDATE FILING INFORMATION GOVERNING BOARD POSITIONS IN ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today that candidate information is now available for those interested in running for school district governing board in the November 4, 2008 general election. There are governing board positions in all seventeen Pima County school districts including five positions in the Pima County Joint Technological Education District. To qualify as a governing board member, the candidate must have been a resident of the school district for at least one year immediately preceding the day of election and be registered voter in the state of Arizona. Please note that according to state statute, no employee of a school district, or their spouse, may hold membership on a school district governing board by which they are employed. To run for the office of governing board, all nomination petitions must be filed with the Office of the Pima County School Superintendent. The filing period begins Monday, July 7, 2008 and ends Wednesday, August 6, 2008. January 29, 2008 GOVERNING BOARD VACANCY (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian has accepted the resignation of San Fernando Elementary School District governing board member and president Melissa Owen. The resignation is effective March 1, 2008. Arizona Revised Statutes §15-302.3 outlines the county school superintendent’s responsibilities in filling a vacant governing board position -- vacancies may either be filled by an appointment or by a special election. Dr. Arzoumanian has determined that an appointment to complete the remainder of the term will best meet the needs of the community and the school district. The term of this appointment will begin upon appointment and will continue through December 31, 2008. This position will appear on the November 4, 2008 ballot as a special two year term position. Dr. Arzoumanian has previously accepted the resignation of Mr. Alvin D. Easterday. This position has been vacant since November 2007. The term of this appointment will begin upon appointment and will continue through December 31, 2008. This position will appear on the November 4, 2008 ballot as a regular four year term position. To qualify as a governing board member the applicant must have been a resident of the San Fernando Elementary School District for at least one year prior to the appointment and must be a registered voter in the state of Arizona. December 11, 2007 EMPIRE SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 37 GOVERNING BOARD APPOINTMENT (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today the appointment of Denise Purvis to the governing board of the Empire School District effective immediately.
November 27, 2007 GOVERNING BOARD VACANCY TUCSON , AZ - Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian is declaring a Governing Board vacancy (according to Arizona Revised Statutes § 38-291.7) in the Empire School District #37 based on documentation provided by the school district governing board. The school district provided documentation that Governing Board member Roy Maine has failed to attend meetings or fulfill the duties of his office for a period of at least three consecutive months. This position is open until filled.
June 5, 2007 JOINT TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION DISTRICT No. 11 GOVERNING BOARD APPOINTMENT (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today the appointment of Ms.Romalda Miguel to the governing board of the Joint Technological Education District. Ms. Miguel replaces Barbara Havier on the JTED governing board. Ms. Havier resigned effective April 10, 2007 due to conflicts in her schedule. Ms. Miguel, a resident of the Indian Oasis-Baboquivari community, will be able to bring her extensive experience working with the youth of the community quickly to the service of the district. Ms. Miguel is currently a Youth Council Coordinator for the Tohono O’odham Nation. Previously she was an Adult/Youth Case Manager for the Tohono O’odham Nation. Her commitment to education and her concern for the educational growth and development of the children make her a valuable asset to the district. The Oath of Office was administered today by Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian, Pima County School Superintendent. Ms. Miguel will assume her duties at the next JTED Governing Board meeting that is scheduled for Tuesday, June 19, 2007. Dr. Arzoumanian was assisted in this appointment process by a five member Advisory Committee from the Indian Oasis-Baboquivari community. The Advisory Committee conducted interviews on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the Indian Oasis-Baboquivari Unified School District.
May 1, 2007 AMPHITHEATER UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 10 GOVERNING BOARD APPOINMENT (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today the appointment of Diana Lynn Boros to the governing board of the Amphitheater Unified School District. Ms. Boros replaces Nancy Young Wright, who resigned March 28, 2007. Ms. Boros, a lifelong resident of the Amphitheater community, will be able to bring her extensive volunteer experience and background quickly to the service of the school district. Boros has been actively involved in the district since 1990 as a PTO volunteer, PTO president, Site Council member, classroom volunteer and fundraiser. Her enthusiasm for the community, her commitment to education and community service, and her concern for the educational growth and development of the children make her a valuable asset to the district. The Oath of Office will be administered on Friday, May 4, 2007, by Dr. Vicki Balentine, Superintendent of the Amphitheater Unified School District. Ms. Boros will assume her duties at the next Amphitheater Unified School District Governing Board meeting that is scheduled for May 8, 2007. Dr. Arzoumanian was assisted in this appointment process by a five member Advisory Committee from the Amphitheater community. The Advisory Committee conducted interviews on Monday, April 30, 2007 in the Office of the Pima County School Superintendent.

February 14, 2007 TANQUE VERDE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 13 GOVERNING BOARD APPOINTMENT (Tucson) – Pima County School Superintendent Dr. Linda Lee Arzoumanian announced today the appointment of Jeffrey M. Neff to the governing board of the Tanque Verde Unified School District. Mr. Neff replaces Wayne Peate, who resigned December 31, 2006 and accepted the appointment to the Pima County Joint Technological Education District governing board. Mr. Neff, a Tanque Verde area resident since 1989, will be able to bring his volunteer experience and background quickly to the service of the school district. He has experience in formulation and implementation of policies, management, and budgeting. Neff’s experience also includes budget preparation, allocation of resources, arbitration and mediation. Neff has his own law firm with an emphasis in real estate, probate and trust work. His enthusiasm for the community, his commitment to education and community service, and his concern for the educational growth and development of the children make him a valuable asset to the district. The Oath of Office will be administered by Dr. Michael Schwanenberger, Superintendent of the Tanque Verde Unified School District. Mr. Neff will assume his duties at the next Tanque Verde Unified School District Governing Board meeting that is scheduled for February 20, 2007. Dr. Arzoumanian was assisted in this appointment process by a three member Advisory Committee from the Tanque Verde community. The Advisory Committee conducted interviews on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 in the Office of the Pima County School Superintendent.
