Educators from Southern Arizona selected for the STEMAZing Teacher Leader Program!

Eight month leadership program kicks off for 12 Southern Arizona educators in September!

Tucson, AZ (June 21, 2017) -The STEMAZing Project, a program of the Pima County School Superintendent's Office, is pleased to announce it has received a second year of support from the Thomas R. Brown Family Foundation for the STEMAZing Teacher Leader Program (STLP). This will be year two for this innovative leadership program.

"The Thomas R. Brown Foundations are pleased to support the second year of the STEMAZing Teacher Leader Program. School districts, school sites, and the community are already benefiting from the leadership STEM teachers are showing. The STEMAZing Project and the STEMAZing Teacher Leader Program are systemic ways to improve educational outcomes through high quality professional development. The impact of STEM teachers who go through these trainings will be felt by hundreds of southern Arizona students, giving them stronger foundations in STEM subjects, leading to greater academic curiosity and opportunity as they continue through their education." said Sarah Smallhouse, President, Thomas R. Brown Foundations.

The STEMAZing Teacher Leader Program will mentor and develop 12 teacher leaders to positively impact STEM education through the research, design, and development of workshops for fellow educators. This program provides the selected Teacher Leaders with an avenue for developing their leadership skills, sharing their expertise, increasing their sense of value, and impacting the STEM culture within their own schools/districts. STLP is open to full-time PreK-8th Grade STEM classroom educators in Southern Arizona. By the end of STLP, the selected classroom educators, turned STEMAZing Teacher Leaders, will facilitate professional development workshops, communities of practice, and instructional improvement.

"The STEMAZing Teacher Leader Program provided a unique opportunity to immerse myself and refine my practice in STEM education. This program provided the tools to become a leader in STEM education for the Tucson community, my school, fellow teachers and district, and most importantly for the students whom I serve. I truly found that this program expanded into every aspect of my life and the lens of thought it provided has allowed me to reach out to others and support them in their STEM endeavors." said Robyn Yewell, BBA, M.A. Ed., M.A. Ed. BME, teacher at Donaldson Elementary and 2017 STEMAZing Teacher Leader

"It is incredible to have the most important work I have done professionally not only recognized for its positive impact but supported for a second year. I am looking forward to welcoming a new cohort of STEMAZing Teacher Leaders and continuing to collaborate with the eleven exceptional teacher leaders from our first year" said DaNel Hogan, Director of The STEMAZing Project.

We congratulate our new cohort for their interest in further developing their role as a teacher leader within their school community.
