Collaboration is working together with students, teachers, businesses, community based organizations, parents, and taxpayers to improve the quality of education in Pima County.

The Office of the Pima County School Superintendent participates in a variety of community partnerships.

Pima County Transition Consortium
Pima County Transition Consortium is a network of public school Special Educators, Transition Specialists, representatives from Arizona Department of Rehabilitative Services Adminiistration and Vocational Rehabilitation. The goal of the group is to build collorabration amongst members and to support meaningful transitions from high school to work and post secondary education.

Waters Foundation-Sytems Thinking in Schools
The mission of the Systems Thinking in Schools program is to increase the capacity of educators to deliver student academic and lifetime benefits through the effective application of systems thinking concepts, habits and tools in classroom instruction and school improvement.  The Pima County program is funded by The Waters Foundation (www.watersfoundation.org).  Program services include teacher and administrator training, coaching, retreat facilitation, and web-based instruction and support..

UA Professional Preparation Board for Teachers
Composed of representatives from University of Arizona colleges associated with teacher preparation and of community and school personnel, the PPB initiated dialogue and study of critical issues in education.

Pima/Santa Cruz Tech Prep Consortium
Tech Prep is a federally funded educational program designed to better prepare students to enter, and succeed in, their chosen professions. The emphasis is on partnerships:  high school teachers, community college instructors and local businesses working together to create pathways of study that result in graduates who know what is expected of them as professionals and have the entry level skills needed to succeed. Tech Prep students save both time and money by earning free college credits while still in high school.

Pima County P-20 Council
The P-20 Council’s mission is: “To provide a forum for the education leaders of Southern Arizona to share information and develop partnerships; to critically examine current issues; to solve problems;to influence the legislative and business communities; and to shape the education agenda to better meet the needs of all students.”

First Focus on Kids
United Way of Southern Arizona First Focus on Kids Impact Council created a tool for parents, providers and policymakers to measure the quality of childcare centers and identify areas for improvement.

Governors’ Books
This program provides books to every first and fourth grader in the state of Arizona. The Office of the Pima County School Superintendent coordinates the distribution of these books in Pima County.

Governors’ Teacher Quality and Support Committee
Established by Governor Janet Napolitano in May 2005, the Governors’ Teacher Quality and Support Committee is charged to develop recommendations to keep excellent teachers in the classroom. The group will focus on strategies to improve teacher quality and to improve working conditions for teachers.

The 20-member committee consists of teachers, members of the business community, and representatives of public and private sector teaching colleges.

Statewide School Finance Advisory Committee
The School Finance Advisory Committee studies issues and offers resolutions and recommendations to the Arizona Department of Education on critical issues facing school finance professionals.

Superintendent/Governing Board Collaborative
The Pima County Superintendent/School Board Collaborative is a unique organization whose mission is to represent and protect the interests of the students of Pima County.  The Superintendents group meets once a month and the School Board group meets bi-monthly.

Southern Arizona Professional Developers
SAPD (Sothern Arizona Professional Developers) is a network of educators involved in providing professional development throughout Pima County.  The group was established to promote collaborative partnerships and provide opportunities for ongoing communication between the University and the schools. Specifically, the overarching goal is to plan and implement professional development opportunities for educators in Pima County in order to best utilize resources

Math/Science Partnership
The Mathematics and Science Partnership Program supports improved academic achievement of students in the areas of mathematics and science by encouraging state educational agencies, institutions of higher education, local educational agencies, elementary schools, and secondary schools to partner in high-quality professional development programs. The intent of this program is to increase academic achievement of students in mathematics and science by enhancing the content knowledge and teaching skills of classroom teachers. Title II, Part B of NCLB authorizes a Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) competitive grant program.

Business Education Roundtable
The Office of the Pima County School Superintendent facilitates the Pima County Business Education Roundtable functions which focus on issues and solutions to improve K-12 education in Pima County.

Metropolitan Education Commission
Composed of 34 Citizen Commissioners, MEC advises, makes recommendations and serves as an advocate in all areas as they affect the educational welfare of Tucson and Pima County

Juvenile Court Education Outcomes Committee & JDMC
The Pima County Juvenile Court Committee to Improve Educational Outcomes for Court-Involved Youth was established in January 2003 as a Dependency Model Court Subcommittee.  The goal of the committee was to explore ways in which educational outcomes for youth in foster care could be improved.  In February 2005 the committee’s membership expanded from 12 to 37 representatives and the focus became improved educational outcomes for all court-involved youth.  The committee’s current goals address student retention and family engagement.

Early Childhood Educator Professional Development
In conjunction with Pima Community College, the Office of the Pima County School Superintendent is pleased to present the Early Childhood Professional Development Videos.

Educational Resource Guide for Foster Care Professionals
The goal of this guide is to provide easy access to this information and available resources so that young children in foster care can begin their lives with a strong foundation for growth, learning and lifetime achievement.

Southern Arizona Special Education Professional Development

Early Childhood Program Staff Orientation
Produced in collaboration with Pima Community College, the New Early Childhood professional Development Staff Orientation is designed to meet all of the Department of Health Services requirements for new childhood care center employees..
