Arizona School Tax Credit Contribution Information

How much can you contribute?

Single individuals (or married, filing separately) can receive a credit of up to $200.  Married couples filing a joint return can receive a credit of up to $400.  You do not have to contribute all at once.  You can contribute in any amount you choose -- and you can donate throughout the year!  For example, a single individual can contribute for $20 a month for 10 months or a married individual can give $40 a month for 10 months...it's up to you.

What are the benefits of the Public School Tax Credit program?

Tax credit contributions can help support activities for students in grades K-12 by helping support programs like extracurricular activities, character education programs and other programs that help support the education of our District students.

Who decides where the dollars are spent?

You decide!  With your contribution, you can designate where you want to provide support.  You can select "Greatest Needs" and the District will focus your dollars towards the greatest needs of our students.  You can designate programs at our "CAPE School-Juvenile Detention" or "CAPE School-Adult Detention."

Will I receive proof of payment?

If you contribute using our secure online form to pay with a major credit card, you will receive a receipt in your email that you can print out.  If you mail in your contribution, you will be mailed a receipt within a few days of receiving your contribution.

Do I need to live in Tucson or Pima County to contribute?

Not at all.  Anyone who pays Arizona state income taxes can give to any Arizona public school.

What is the difference between a tax credit versus a tax deduction?

A tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your Arizona income tax liability.  For example, if you have a total income tax liability of $1000 when you are preparing your Arizona tax returns, but you made a $400 public school tax credit contribution, your tax liability is now reduced to $600.  A tax deduction is a reduction in your taxable income used to determined your tax liability.  Tax credits have greater value than tax deductions.
